Mystery shoppers pose as normal customers and perform specific tasks such as purchasing a product, asking questions, registering complaints or behaving in a certain way and then provide detailed written reports about their experience. Also referred to as secret shopping, performance evaluations and service checks, mystery shopping allows companies to obtain an unbiased view by trained researchers who know in advance who and what they will be evaluating. It provides owners and management with the ability to evaluate their business practices and employees from the perspective of an objective consumer.
